Installation Tips

As a commercial installer (semi retired) I have learned a few tricks along the way and one that has helped me save time and some money is the waxing of my trowels. I have employed a lot of sub contractors along the way and watched them spend a lot of time every morning scraping trowels that they were to lazy to clean up at the end of the previous day. And I have been guilty of this too. Or they simply buy a new trowel when they get to dirty or to lazy to clean them. A trowel is a tool like any other and there are ways to take care of them and make them last longer like re-notching your trowels which I do sometimes several times a day. But as I said I've come to the practice of waxing my trowels when I purchase them. I recommend the use of a thick paste wax like turtle wax and applying it to your trowel just like you would to a car. When you are done at the end of the day simply run water over your trowel and the glue comes right off. It only takes five minutes to apply and the time and money you save is worth those five minutes.
